Flying High is on St. George Island, Florida - approximately 60 miles East of Panama City and 70 miles southwest of Tallahassee on the beautiful unspoiled eastern gulf coast.  It is about 300 miles to both Atlanta and Birmingham.

St. George Island is a barrier island about 28 miles long and ranging from 1/4 mile to 1 mile in width.  There are strict zoning regulations which keep most of the island single family homes on large lots.  There are only 2 condominium complexes - both no higher than 3 stories.  The "commercial" part of the island is centered in the middle of island just off the bridge, and then the rest of the island is residential only.  The 9 miles of the East End of the island are a State Park, and the 5 miles at the West End of the Island is a private, gated community called "The Plantation".  Flying High is in The Plantation.

About The Plantation:
We chose to build in The Plantation as it has strict covenants regarding building and vegetation.  It is much more vegetated than the rest of the island - reminiscent of Hilton Head Island.  There are boardwalks and easements to the beach, underground utilities, 24-hour security, a bike path winding all the way through The Plantation (and right in front of Flying High), 2 tennis courts and a Community Pool/Clubhouse.  There's even a private airstrip with a 3800 foot runway.  The Plantation has been designated an official bird sanctuary and fishing at "the Cut" at the western end of the island is renowned.

NEW!  Directions From Atlanta!
We live in Atlanta, and for years, we took I-75 to Tifton and then took 319 South all the way to St. George.  This route would take us 6-6.5 hours.  But our new "neighbors" in St. George, also from Atlanta, let us in on their route...and it is only 5.5 hours!  Here are the directions from Atlanta:

Take I-85 South out of Atlanta, then I-185 South toward Columbus. You will pickup 431 South by going west of Columbus toward Phenix City. Take 431 South down through Eufala, then in Dothan, pickup 231 South. It was recommended to us that if going at a time other than rush hour to just go ahead and cut through Dothan rather than taking the loop around.

Continue on 231 to I-10 and go East toward Tallahassee. You'll only stay on a couple of exits and get off in Marianna and take Route 71 South. Stay on 71 to Blountstown and turn left on Route 20 (east). Take this just for a few minutes then turn right on Route 12 at Bristol. Take 12 until you get to Wilma and turn right on 65 and go south. Stay on this until you get to 98 just east of Eastpoint. Turn right on 98 until you get to the SGI Bridge!

If you have good directions from other locations, please send them along, and we'll include them on the website!
