Tennis:  There are 2 tennis courts in the Plantation.  One is within walking distance to the house, and the other is adjacent to the Plantation Clubhouse.  Both are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Biking:    A bike path winds through the Plantation, passes right in front of FlyingSGI Bike Path.jpg (65540 bytes) High, and gives riders beach views as well as serene moments through the lush vegetation.  In addition to this extensive bike path, there is a long bike path on the main part of the island that parallels Gulf Beach Avenue.  This path runs from the Plantation to the business area of the island and then out to 11th Avenue East.

Outdoor Rentals:  Several companies on the island rent bikes, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, motor scooters, kayaks, boats and fishing gear.  We have provided the brochures for these companies in the computer desk.

Fishing:  Some of the best fishing in the area can be found at Bob Sike's Cut at the west end of the Plantation.  "The Cut" was created by cutting the island in two to make it easier for Apalachicola fishers to reach the Gulf.  As a renter of Flying High, you can access "the Cut" by turning left on Leisure Lane and continuing to the end of the island.  Only owners and guests of the Plantation may access this unique fishing spot.

Fishing Charters:  Charters are available through a couple of companies mostly based out of Apalachicola - about a 15 minute drive.  Information on these companies and their offerings is also available at Flying High.

St. George Island State Park:  The eastern-most 9 miles of the island are St. George Island State Park.  The undeveloped beaches and dunes are surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and Apalachicola Bay.  For more information, visit the Florida State Parks website.

Restaurants:
There are several casual restaurants on the island including The Blue Parrot, Finni's, BJ's Pizza and Juice and Java By the Sea.
In Apalachicola...Chef Eddie's, Owl Cafe, Boss Oyster and Cafe Floridita are some of our favorites.
We've provided a listing of these restaurants, our amateur reviews and menus as available in a binder in Flying High.

Beach Photography:
We've used a local Apalachicola photographer, Joe Witt, to take our engagement and wedding pictures (yes, we were married on St. George!), and we've been very happy with the results.  We highly recommend him for keepsake family photos out on the beach - he does great work with black and white as well - just remember to bring khaki, white or denim for those shots.  A great family treasure could be a black and white photo among the sea oats with the family in coordinated khaki shorts and crisp white linen or denim shirts.  You can reach Joe at:  Phone (850) 653-2608 - E-mail joeawitt@gtcom.net or view his website at www.joeawitt.com.
